South Africa
The under-resourced churches across South Africa face several challenges such as high cost of Bibles, lack of training for pastors, lack of Bible-based follow-up for new converts, internal disputes focused on growth in numbers instead of qualitative church growth, and lack of training, innovation, and creativity in regard to church growth.
Project Philip Bible studies are the core of the ministry program in South Africa, geared toward marginalized and under-resourced churches, schools, and prisons. The goal is to equip leaders with proven, discipleship-focused training and provide Bibles and biblical materials. Through this, churches will have leaders who can share the Gospel more effectively, they will have members who can lead Bible studies, and they will be able to steward their new believers into a deeper relationship with Christ.
It’s also encouraged that pastors partner with schools so that the door will be opened to introduce Bible League materials as part of the curriculum. Teachers see that by introducing Bible-based materials, their students’ behavior changes, so many schools are eager to incorporate the Bible League programs.
2019 Ministry Impact Stats:
People Reached with God’s Word: 54,607
People Trained to Share God’s Word: 982
Churches Planted: 8
Bibles & Bible Resources Given: 83,806
Bible League also plans to reorganize and restructure ministry centers to serve the most remote areas more effectively and reach more with Project Philip Bible studies. The closure of the Thohoyandou and Phalaborwa Ministry Centers will allow for the establishment of a larger ministry center in Polokwane. It will be a large warehouse to store materials and Bibles. Free State will be coordinated from Reitz town in order to reach out to rural Afrikaans speaking communities and Sesotho speakers of the province. Mahikeng center will remain and will be organized and empowered to reach further areas in the Northwest Province.
Gifts to the ministry in South Africa will send Bibles, biblical materials, and training materials to the under-resourced churches in South Africa, helping the Gospel to spread effectively.
